The Australian foreign minister has urged Thailand to accelerate the review of mining regulations in his bid to help the Australian company Akara Mining, which has sought new gold mining licences for years. According to Industry Minister Suwit Khunkitti, Australian Foreign Affairs Minister Stephen Smith has asked Thailand to provide more incentives to draw more Australian investors to the country.

Mr Suwit said one of the policies mentioned involved amendments to the gold mine licensing regulations, which Australian investors are eagerly awaiting.
